Tree Tops becomes History
After many years Bill and Sandy have sold Tree Tops and for now, moved to Playacar. We are not sure but our bet is this becomes their new base of operations and they will start to travel again. We would like to recommend a couple other hotels that are reasonably priced like Tree Tops was and have a small and embracing feeling.
Hotel Aqualuna - Tropical Casablanca - Hotel Playa Del Karma

Location
Treetops Hotel is centrally located in the heart of Playa del Carmen on 8th street, between Playa del Carmen's famous 5th Avenue district and the beautiful white sand beaches of the Mayan Riviera - just steps from the turquoise waters of the Caribbean.
This charming enviro-conscientious hotel is proud of its conservation efforts in maintaining a natural tropical setting while offering modern accommodations.
|
Surroundings
The beautiful, indigenous flora of our mini-jungle creates a sense of tranquility and relaxation within the Treetops grounds. Our natural cenote with waterfall, and our resident and visiting parrots, provide a soundtrack that is purely Caribbean. Refresh yourself with a quick dip in our covered pool, or cool off with a drink at the adjacent Sailorman's Pub.
|
Shopping and Activities
Just steps from our front door, take a swim in the Caribbean and sunbathe on white sand beaches, or learn to SCUBA or snorkel from one of the many local dive shops. Stroll up 5th Avenue in either direction to enjoy a day of shopping, tequila tasting, or dining at one of the many sidewalk cafes. One bloc and a half straight up 8th Street you will find the Pelicano mini-mall with cinema, bank and ATM machine. One more block up 8th and you can shop at the Wal-Mart Supercenter.

After a day of swimming in the turquoise Caribbean waters or sunbathing on white sand beaches just steps from our door, come back to enjoy our fresh water pool, or spend a relaxing afternoon on your private patio or in a shaded hammock.
Don't miss taking a peek at our own natural cenote, one of many underground river entrances found in the Yucatan.

Nightlife
Night owls will find plenty to do in Playa. Begin your evening with happy hour at Sailorman's Pub adjacent to the hotel. From there, a short saunter up to 5th street provides you with plenty of international restaurants, roaming mariachis, live entertainment, and even all night dance clubs right here in the center of town.
|
Dining
Casa del Agua- 5th Avenue on the corner of 2nd Street features a selection of delicious and reasonably priced international and Mexican dishes served upstairs in a two level building with a waterfall. Very nice atmosphere.
El Chino- About 2 blocks west of 5th Ave. inside the Big Palapa is still one of the favorites with the locals for seafood and Yucatecan dishes. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Small coffee shops, Internet cafes and sidewalk cafes have sprung up all over 5th and 10th Avenues from the bus station to Constitution Avenue, and serve a variety of tasty dishes from morning until late night.

Things to Do
Playa del Carmen is quickly becoming a favorite destination for many travelers. The town is located 40 miles south of Cancún in the heart of what is now called the Mayan Riviera. Playa is a perfect base from which to explore the myriad of attractions in the 'Riviera' such as the Mayan Ruins of Xel Ha, Tulum, Cobá and Muyil.
Playa del Carmen offers a wide range of activities that's as diverse as the turquoise hues of its Caribbean waters. Snorkel on a coral reef or a peaceful lagoon. Scuba Dive in the Caribbean or one of the many cenotes in the area. Take a long walk on endless stretches of fine white sandy beaches. Wind surfing, jet skiing, or a full day of big-game fishing are also available. Whatever your interest, Playa del Carmen has something for everybody.
Playa's restaurants offer traditional Mexican food, fresh seafood and a variety of international cuisine. Playa del Carmen's pedestrian avenue (Quinta Avenida) is packed with sidewalk cafes, each with its own unique charm. In the evening you can enjoy tropical cocktails at a waterfront bar or dance the night away to live music.
Shoppers looking for that special gift will find it here; handcrafted items from all over the country are available in Playa. The small shops around the plaza and on Avenida 5 in Playa are great places to pick up souvenirs and jewelry. North of the plaza is the Rincon del Sol, where shops carry Guatemalan textiles as well as masks and resort wear. Plaza Antigua has an especially good selection.
